What is Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance?

Compulsory Third Party insurance (also known as a 'Green Slip' in NSW) provides cover for injuries that you might cause to other road users as a result of a motor vehicle accident that is partly or fully your fault. 

This cover operates Australia-wide and extends to anyone else that might drive your vehicle. As the name suggests, Compulsory Third Party insurance is compulsory and must be purchased before you can register your vehicle in NSW. 

As long as your vehicle is registered, your Green Slip will cover you for any injuries caused to other road users and yourself if you are at fault in a motor vehicle accident in Australia. If your vehicle is not registered you may be personally liable for injuries you cause.

At Fault Driver Protection

CTP insurance in NSW does not provide compensation for injuries sustained by the driver that is at fault in a motor vehicle accident. Allianz Green Slips, however, come with At Fault Driver Protection insurance that provides eligible drivers with up to $250,000 worth of cover for serious injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident that is your fault. This additional cover provides extra peace of mind at no extra cost.

What does Compulsory Third Party insurance cover?

• Injuries caused to your passengers
• Injuries caused to other road users, such as; drivers and passengers of other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, motor cyclists and pillion passengers
• Injuries caused through the use of a trailer
• Damage caused to property including other vehicles
• Injuries sustained by you or any other driver of your vehicle*.

*If you are not the driver at fault in an accident, you may be entitled to claim against the at fault driver’s CTP insurance policy for injuries you sustain.
